Aftermath

Aftermath is an audio drama set in a post apocalyptic Scotland and centring on a small band of survivors. A mysterious foreign power has launched missiles at the UK that release a green chemical fog. Those caught in the fog are driven violently mad and begin to attack unaffected survivors. An intriguing premise for a show that mixes British humour with a bleak post apocalyptic background.

Created by the Scottish based YAP audio the show ran for two seasons in all with the final episodes feeling a little rushed perhaps, in terms of storytelling and wrapping up the narrative, but overall the series is excellent. Along with the bleakness one expects form a post apocalyptic tale we also have an interesting and mysterious plot unfolding and some truly funny moments and great characters. The show also includes a causal throw away line about the psychological attachment captives often develop with their captors that is probably my favourite linguistic joke of the show.

As is to be expected from a production company that is perhaps better known for it's podcast on how to produce Audio Drama, the sound recording, editing and production are good. The acting flows naturally and well and the Scottish accents are genuine, delivered as they are by actual Scotts.

If you like post apocalyptic drama and like your stories to include the sort of every day humour that is part of real life then you shouldn't miss YAP audio's 'Aftermath'.
